I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found a brilliant, knowledgeable, and caring mentor in Dr. Kate Sleeth. While I was struggling to recognize my own career path, she was of incredible help and support. We went on a “journey” together, a journey that started by exploring my professional and personal interests through Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory (SII). From there, Kate guided me in identifying my strong skills for those careers best suited for me. Finally, she helped me negotiate job offers to eventually accept my dream job. Not only was it a successful journey, but spending time with her always brightened my day – every time I would leave her office with a big smile. I cannot imagine a better person to help one develop professionally and personally than Kate. She earns my highest recommendation.

Kate has played an instrumental role in shaping my path to medicine and encouraging a journey of self-discovery. When I embarked on the daunting journey to become the first physician in my family, Kate took me under her wing and provided tremendous insight into the field. She placed me in my first research lab and connected me to a thriving community of scientists, healthcare leaders, and likeminded individuals. Kate took the time to understand my aspirations and provide tailored advice. Her ability to identify my diverse strengths with tools like the MBTI gave me confidence to boldly pursue excellence without sacrificing personal fulfillment. Most importantly, Kate does all of this with candor, grace, and compassion. If you are looking for an experienced mentor who will be personally vested in your success, you definitely want Kate in your corner!

I have know Kate since 2012 when I participated in the Eugene and Ruth Roberts summer academy at the City of Hope. Since then she has consistently been there for me as a close mentor and caring friend. Even after my time was done at City of Hope, Kate has stayed in close contact, always ready to provide advice to help me advance in my path as an aspiring scientist. Her ability to work with her students and help guide them towards their next step has helped me tremendously, she consistently goes out of her way to make sure that any student, both past and present, has access to mentorship that will help them achieve their goals. Kate has also been instrumental in connecting me with opportunities that would help me advance my career in science such as helping me attend the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students, twice, to present my research and connecting me with her colleagues in the field. Kate is a great mentor and a passionate student advocate.
